Carla Valencia Design is the manifestation of Carla Valencia’s creative dreams and family history. As a child, she learned how to sew at a young age sitting alongside her wildly artistic grandmother, Martha.
Today, Carla uses the old-world embroidery techniques passed down by the women in her family to create modern designs using the symbols and icons that influence her. From evil eyes to hamsas to snakes and sacred hearts – flowers and Frida and the moon and stars – the ideas spill out through needle and thread, creating truly one-of-a-kind clothing and accessories meant to last forever.
Her father Carlos was also heavily influenced by his mother Martha and is Carla’s partner in sewing crime.

Carla’s paternal grandmother Martha taught her how to sew and Carlos, that aforementioned grandmother’s son, grew up watching his mother handmake all her clothing and his sisters. His father, along with his uncles, owned a denim factory in Guadalajara, Mexico where Carlos learned how to operate not only the sewing machines but learned about fabrics garment making.

Carlos uses his skills with machinery to create our original patches as well as our machine made embroidery pieces. Carla designs and hand makes our custom orders. Together father + daughter honor the old world techniques of embroidery using needle and thread handed down by Martha.
